Frequently Asked Questions

Good honey deserves a few good questions.

The Honey

What makes Raw Cornish Honey different?

Our honey comes from Cornwall, made by bees foraging across the wild and varied Cornish landscape.

We keep the process simple. We harvest our honey carefully and handle it with as little intervention as possible, allowing its natural character to shine through.

Pure. Raw. Cornish.

Is your honey really raw?

Yes. Our honey is kept as close to its natural state as possible, without unnecessary processing or excessive heating.

This helps retain the natural character, aroma and flavour of the honey as it comes from the hive.

Is anything added to the honey?

Nothing.

Our honey is 100% pure honey. There are no added syrups, flavours, preservatives or other ingredients.

Just honey, made by bees.

Where does your honey come from?

Our honey is produced in Cornwall, with our bees foraging naturally across the surrounding countryside.

From hedgerows and meadow flowers to the wild blooms of the Cornish landscape, the flowers available to our bees change with the seasons, giving each harvest its own character.

A Taste of Cornwall

Why can the colour and flavour vary between jars?

Because our honey is natural.

The flowers our bees visit, the season, weather and local landscape can all influence the honey they produce. One harvest may be light and delicate, while another can be deeper, richer and more aromatic.

We don't try to make every jar identical. We let the season speak for itself.

What does Cornish honey taste like?

There isn't one single flavour.

Cornish honey reflects the landscape and the season in which it was gathered. You may find delicate floral notes in one harvest and deeper, more rounded flavours in another.

It's one of the pleasures of eating genuinely natural honey.

Naturally Crystallised

Why has my honey crystallised?

Crystallisation is a completely natural part of honey's life.

All pure honey can crystallise, and the speed and texture can vary depending on the natural sugars and floral sources within it.

It doesn't mean your honey has gone bad. Quite the opposite; crystallisation is one of the natural characteristics of real honey.

Can crystallised honey be made runny again?

Yes.

If you prefer your honey runny, place the jar in warm water and allow it to gently soften. Take care not to overheat the honey.

We recommend gentle warming rather than high temperatures, helping to protect the natural qualities that make raw honey special.

Is crystallised honey still good to eat?

Absolutely.

Crystallised honey is perfectly natural and perfectly delicious. Its texture simply changes from smooth and flowing to thicker and sometimes almost fudge-like.

Many honey lovers prefer it this way.

From Hive to Jar

How is your honey handled?

We aim to keep the journey from hive to jar as simple and gentle as possible.

Our honey is carefully harvested, prepared and bottled with the aim of preserving the natural character of the honey rather than heavily processing it.

Is your honey filtered?

Our honey is handled to remove unwanted hive material while retaining the natural character of the honey.

We believe honey should still feel like a product of the hive, rather than something manufactured.

Our Bees

What flowers do your bees forage on?

Our bees forage naturally on whatever is flowering around them.

Cornish hedgerows, meadows, gardens, woodland edges and wild moorland can all contribute to what ends up in the hive.

The bees choose the flowers. We simply harvest what they make.

Do you produce honey all year round?

Honey production follows the seasons.

As different plants flower throughout the year, the opportunities for our bees, and the character of the honey they produce change with them.

That seasonal nature is part of what makes each harvest unique.

Looking After Your Honey

How should I store my honey?

Keep the jar tightly closed and store it somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.

There is no need to refrigerate honey.

How long will my honey last?

Honey naturally keeps extremely well when stored correctly.

For the best experience, we recommend enjoying it within the best-before date shown on the jar and storing it as recommended.
